This is my response to peachofmeat’s expose of how he fraudulently gained over 100,000 subscribers in a week. If you’re not an active part of the YouTube community, you probably don’t understand why this is such a big deal, so I give you freedom to declare TL;DR and come back later .

Basically, for those who aren’t familiar with this story (paraphrasing TheWillOfDC’s video explanation), Mr. PeachOfMeat created one of those Facebook groups like “Fan This Iffin U Hates Justin Bieber” or “The Best Way To Break Up With Your Internet Girlfriend Without Leaving The Basement” that bored people join madly just because it’s there*.

However, in this new type of group, after you join you are asked to “Confirm” your status, but coincidentally are told to also ‘make sure you are logged into YouTube’. This is basically a disguised “Subscribe” button, made to look like a “Confirm” button but coded to make you unknowingly subscribe to PeachOfMeat.

Thus, this guy has fraudulently jumped from being unknown, and into the most-subscribed lists on YouTube, without actually posting videos or entertaining anyone. His explanation of this tactic has the entire YouTube community furious, because it opens a door for any talentless troll to flood the website with junk. People are, understandably, not happy. His latest video, in which he admits unrepentantly to his fraud, is rated two stars.

He fooled over 150,000 people in less than two weeks. Many of my subscribers commented on my video saying they checked their sub box, and to their own shock he had conned them as well. Check your subscription list, and if you see peachofmeat there, unsubscribe and block his channel (this option is on his main channel, beside his profile photo) so he can’t scam you again. Also, if you would like to send a message to YouTube, you can flag his video and contact their support (please don’t email me, I can’t forward your messages in).

It’s amusing how people will always try to find a way to hack the system, instead of actually working hard and building up an audience like everyone else. But as I said in the video: two subscribers on a working channel is worth far more than 100,000 subscribers on one that is suspended.

I saw Remember Me yesterday, starring Robert Pattinson. The movie was wonderful on all counts, from believable characters to a story that immersed me all the way to the ending that hit like a train (in a good way, the oh-wow-how-did-I-not-see-that-coming, did-that-really-just-happen way). Dramas sometimes tend to lean toward the chick-flicky side but this one balanced the story out fantastically. Make sure you see it in theaters March 12, 2010!

Writing break is soon to come to a close. I just started getting notes together for Bran Hambric 3 this morning. I also decided to be an 8 year old,which due to my lack of parental supervision means watch TV all day and have some Chef Boyardee. Haven’t had this since I was 8 or so. I can’t even remember how this stuff tastes.

[ADDED: awful. this tasted far better when I was 8. oh well ]

[ADDED: I just took the trash out. Acting like I'm 8 = officially over]

In celebration of seven years since 3/3/03, I’m very proud to finally show off the cover art for BRAN HAMBRIC: THE SPECTER KEY!

Most BranFans already know this, but I started writing the first book (Bran Hambric: The Farfield Curse) late at night on March 3 of 2003. Every year I try to do something special to commemorate the day that in some ways started this entire journey!

The artwork is by the amazing Brandon Dorman, who also did the cover for my first book. As you will see when you finally get to read BH:TSK, the color green is very fitting for many, many reasons
