Avril Lavigne Goes Shrill For “Alice In Wonderland”

- February 19th, 2010 at 1:24 pm by --KALEB NATION-- -

I’m appalled at this song. It’s Avril Lavigne’s lead for the upcoming Alice In Wonderland movie, song titled “Alice (Underground)”. And it’s one of the most disturbingly shrill songs I’ve ever heard.

Most people know that I am a long-time and oft-ridiculed fan of Avril Lavigne, mostly her older stuff though one or two of her newer songs. I grew up in the early 2000’s, so you can’t blame me for my Nelly / Avril Lavigne / Black Eyed Peas / Nickelback music mix I keep in the back of my iTunes. But this is just bloody awful. The beginning 46 seconds are delightfully misleading. Then it begins to spiral down into a pit of yuck. By 1:11, I’m smashing bottles of Martinelli on my head to get the awful ringing out of my ears. I think I can hear the microphone blowing out from overmodulation (a word we used in radio when one’s voice would be too loud and blow out the speakers, though I suspect ‘overmodulation’ is not being used to its correct definition).

Why couldn’t Avril Lavigne have made an epic credits song for Alice In Wonderland like she did for Eragon? One of the best credits songs of all time:

I watched the first half of that film just because I’d heard the song. Seriously, I’d pay big bucks if she’d have saved it for the Bran Hambric movie.

I Nine – If This Room Could Move

- March 13th, 2008 at 1:01 am by --KALEB NATION-- -

I-Nine - If This Room Could MoveI said months ago when the song Seven Days of Lonely came out that the band I Nine was set up to be big. For some strange reason (which can only be attributed to demons, leprechauns or radio people, who are hard to tell apart sometimes) the song got hardly any strong airplay. Now the band is setting out with another great track, this time produced by Chad Kroeger from Nickelback and called If This Room Could Move:

Wonderful track that should at least hit AC and then bring their other one back around, which should have been last years big hit and was even better. This band is the long-awaited companion to Avril Lavigne.

Avril Lavigne – Hot

- January 15th, 2008 at 3:38 am by --KALEB NATION-- -

Avril Lavigne Hot Cover Art-spacer- As usual, I hated this song when I first heard it. But also as usual, I forced myself to listen because it was Avril after all, and I don’t think she’s ever put out a song that I didn’t end up at least partially enjoying (yes, even Girlfriend, but no, not the Lil Mama remix. I do draw the line somewhere around the Spongebob Squarepants theme song).

I had to cut the verses on this so she doesn’t actually just hop into the chorus- this is a clip after all. Avril has a way of saving an awful song by throwing something in that picks the track up. After a loathsome chorus that seems almost monotone, she pulls it right out of the awfulness and slides the track into sounding pretty good.

I Nine – Seven Days of Lonely

- August 17th, 2007 at 6:12 am by --KALEB NATION-- -

I NineFor the longest time I have searched the world for who I think will be the next big Avril Lavigne. After her latest album, which is a CD hardly worth the plastic it sits in save for 2 or 3 great tracks that sounds like classic Avril (Keep Holding On, When You’re Gone and maybe 1 more), I have been quite ready to move onto other things. Like Lemony Snicket and his awful 13th book, I liked all her previous albums so much that when something flimsy comes out I despise the artist for letting me down, at least for the time it takes for them to get back on their feet and put something real out.

So in my search for something new and wonderful, I have discovered this new track, which was just released though the album isn’t out for a few months. The group is called I-Nine (Inine, I Nine) and the song is called Seven Days of Lonely (the voice of the group is Carmen Keigans). I think she sounds like Avril, she’s got a pro writing her songs (Hinder’s songwriter) and a sound that will bring them up to the top. So listen to the song clip in the player, clicking on the name if the randomizer picked something else, and tell me what you think.
