Sherwood – Song In My Head

-spacer-If you were to take parts of Athlete, Stellar Kart, Relient K and Coldplay, and splice them together into a musical version of Frankenstein, you would have Song In My Head by California-based band Sherwood. Frankenstein isn’t really a good word here, as the track is awesomely good, and helps me through maniacal outbreaks of vengeful abyss over the fact that Athlete’s last album had only 1 good song.

You must hear this clip all the way to the end, as the best part is the guitar. If this was an instrumental track I would have still bought it, because that guitar rocks.

They’re signed with Myspace Records which tells a story in itself. Thus, we know that they are rock influenced, have slight emo leanings, will say ‘nevermore’ or ‘demon’ or ‘black’ at least twice in their album, and will have at least one song that sounds great at 56k Myspace music player quality. Ah hah! With a title like Song In My Head, we can be hopeful they’ll nail it all at once (like broken metal splints on a black black coffin draped in sorrow and crow-shaped tears).

Anyhow, this is the best song on their new album in my opinion, and they have enough promise behind them; and on top of that, his voice seems authentic and sincere. I’ve heard live shows are their strong point, too. I wasn’t in the least bit surprised to see Relient K in their top Myspace friends list- if you’re a fan of them, but want something a tad more…(serious?)… you’ll love these guys.

Athlete – Hurricane

- January 31st, 2008 at 8:00 am by --KALEB NATION-- -

Athlete - Hurricane album art-spacer- I had the wonderful luck to catch these guys at a concert in Austin, Texas, without even knowing who they were. The band, Athlete, was on tour with Switchfoot, doing the show opening. I remember trying to memorize parts of the songs as they sang them so that when I got home, I would know what to search for so I could get them online. I think their show was even better than Switchfoot’s.

This is yet another great track of theirs called Hurricane, a follow up to their song Half Light, which was also really good. The only thing they could redo is that awful album art.
