Aaaand nowwww: the music video for my poppin’ rap beat, “WANNABE GANGSTA”!!! Dis is da bomb ya’ll!!!

And that is the end of me being a rapper for the day . This song was so much fun to do, especially since I wasn’t actually trying to make it a real video, and my attempts at not making a real video backfired into this. The real power behind this is the awesome Nationeers: over 130 of which sent in videos of themselves dancing, jumping, and just being generally Wannabe Gangsta.

And, for those who will inevitably ask, the reason there are two download versions of the song (one for the music video version, and one regular) is because those wannabewannabewannawannawannabe autotune robot voices DO get irritating at some point, and so you can have a regular version without the intro, and a longer ending

People always ask how I make this stuff, so here’s how. I have Cubase Studio 5 for the DAW, I use an M-Audio Keyrig 49 keyboard, and just load the instruments on. This was a lot of reFX Nexus and Beast and loads of Vanguard. reFX has the best instruments for this type of music (by revealing my instruments, I almost feel like I’ve violated some techno code, much like a magician revealing his tricks). The drums were a drum sample pack, and I made the loops with each individual sound. The vocals… erm. We’ll leave the vocals to your imagination.

For the video, I use Sony Vegas Pro 9 (yeah, I’m still on a PC!). The motion is done with keyframes. Every image was created in Photoshop, and then the layers were exported to Vegas for animation. Most of the color processing is just curves and contrast. I used my Canon T1i camera and lots of lamps (as you can see in my 3D glasses reflection). My greenscreen is 9 giant pieces of green paper from Target taped to my wall. And that concludes my totally gangsta music video setup

I haven’t even had a chance to post a video about the new NATIONEER shirts yet, and already they’re being shipped all over the country! It’s awesome that so many of you actually want shirts with my name on it (or, in the case of the OH ROT! shirts, a phrase commonly attributed to a gnome-hating banker, which I can honestly say is the ONLY one of its kind).

Since there are so many of you who will soon be showing off your Nationeer pride, I have an idea for some cool stuff we can do. I’m looking for some awesome Nationeers / BranFans to send in photos or Youtube videos of them wearing Nationeer / Bran Hambric shirts. I’m going to be updating the Fan section of the site with pictures from Nationeers all over the world. I also want to include some of you in the videos and the vlogs (yes, the vlogs WILL start back up again soon, once I get my overloaded life schedule manageable again!).
