I don’t really know when my liking for gnomes started. For some reason, I’ve just been fascinated with them for years. Placing gnomes in my book as an often-discriminated culture in society only seemed to deepen my respect for the creatures. In my world, sometimes it’s hard to tell a gnome apart from a very short human. If they just took off their hat, people might not even notice. But instead of giving in to what an anti-magic society wishes them to be, they go on quietly fighting for their freedom to be who they are: their very existence a silent form of peaceful protest. In the case of gnomes, size doesn’t matter in the end.
