Owl City’s “Vanilla Twilight” Music Video Is Totally About Alien Possession

March 24th, 2010 at 11:43 am by --KALEB NATION--

Ah Owl City. I like the song. But can someone please explain what is going on in this new “Vanilla Twilight” music video? A bunch of people staring off into bright lights on the horizon? First I think it’s a joyful apocalypse video. I keep waiting for angels to descend from the clouds in an dazzling array of rainbows synchronized with the music.

Then Shaq appears. He raises his arms to the sky and mouths “TAKE ME WITH YOU!” (I played it a few times and figured out what Shaq says). After that, he looks at the camera and grins. Now I think the video is about aliens. By the end of the video, everyone who looked into the light is possessed.

He warned you they were coming. You didn't listen.

Now we all aliens up in hurr

Sorry Shaq, you too. You shoulda listened to the old man.

This video is about a dead girl...

How people can think that God is a less ridiculous idea than aliens is beyond me.

He did a short into/ story behind the song a while ago. It's just about him falling asleep on a boat by his cottage and waking up to see the sunrise.

The story behind the song is just about him falling asleep outside near his cottage on the lake and waking up and seeing the sunrise. He did a short explanation of the song no to long ago

Ahh, Kaleb. You are always so funny. I can see where you got that impression by watching it; I was a little creeped out at first. Aliens? That's awesome. As much as I don't like how rude BAM was to you, I do agree with his version. That was the impression I finally got after watching it a second time. I read an article about the spirituality of it online (yes, I was really bored) and it made perfect sense after that! I still like the alien thing better.

Haha you've totally tainted that video for me now, Kaleb :P
I think it's a beautiful song, though. I nearly cried when I saw him sing it live :)

I think BAM's version is right.
but i realized the alien thing was a joke...:P but i like his explanation anyways!
  • Silly Kaleb, they're waiting for the hamburgers to start falling from the sky....
  • claudiah
    I hated that movie :P
  • Haylee
Yeah, see. Only Kaleb would be able to look past all the gloriness in this video and turn it into something we can both enjoy and have an inside joke about every time we watch the video. Thanks for making our days better Kaleb :)

I thought it was more about some beautiful light, and people being wowed by it.
  • I'm just curious why the aliens are traveling in a heart-shaped hole in the clouds. Also that looked a whole lot like North-eastern Ohio this past winter, which is in fact where Shaq lives, I didn't see any strange cloud-holes though

That was so funny, and, now that I think about it, he is TOTALLY saying "Take Me With You." Freaky...

I wonder how much it cost them to get Shaq to be in a music video..when was the last time he was in a music video/movie? Kazaam back in the early 90s?
  • That was a beautiful video. Goosebumps. Smiles.
  • Natha
I think the video was cool, but I'm weird/crazy my friends says... It actually looked like an apocalypse kinda x')
And the pictures you posted of red-eyed people were funny since I just finished watching my New Moon DVD 2 minutes ago x'D
  • That wasn't the most interesting video ever, but thinking they were being possessed by aliens made it a lot cooler. xD
  • Ahhh, Kaleb you always make my day. I was totally waiting for the Aliens. :) Also, BAM is making me giggle.

No, see, the thing is, you're just a moron. This video is NOT about aliens. How the heck did that even come into your brain?? This video is really about seeing God in every little thing. In this case, all these different kinds of people saw God in the beautiful twilight. When Shaq said "take me with you" he could have been asking God, or maybe some unseen angels, to take him away, maybe to Heaven. And the reason all the people, especially Shaq, looked/acted happy after the twilight had passed was because they had actually seen God. But this video, not to mention this song, is NOT about aliens. Period. So don't even try to defend your ridiculous notion that it is about ET and his kind. But seriously, come on...ALIENS?!?!?!?
  • Nebenebe
    God doesn't exist.
  • BAM
    Shut up fag.
  • Princessofkalamazoo
The most confusing part about this comment is the fact that it is on your blog. I just don't even get why they are here reading it if they thing you're such a moron.

Dude...seriously? I've included some links because it's obvious that you need a firmer grasp of a few key concepts of humanity.

the song itself is about his dead wife. so no, your theory about the video being about god is also off :) everyone is looking up at the sky and seeing heaven possibly and seeing their dead loved ones, hence the 'take me with you'
  • twilight dreamer
I agree with you this was my theory. He may not have a dead wife but I believe he knows what it feels like to miss a loved one when you look at the beauty of nature
  • Kaitlin
i'm pretty sure it was a girlfriend of his, not a wife
  • Actually, I think that Adam having a deceased wife is a rumor. I researched it and that doesn't appear to be fact.

hahahahahahahaha. do you not realize it is a joke....
  • Haha, cool! ;D Try to watch the video, listen to the music and read what you have written at the same time ;) I did!

    Wow I see it now...
