This movie will be EPIC. Finally, the first photos from the much-anticipated “Alice In Wonderland” film by Tim Burton have been released, with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham-Carter as the Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. Being an enormous fan of Tim Burton’s other movies (especially The Nightmare Before Christmas) his name being attached to this film makes me even more excited to see it. Throw in Stephen Fry as the Chesire Cat, Timothy Spall as the Bloodhound, and Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar (I’m not even making this up) and you have what could easily be the biggest movie of 2010 (and perhaps the big breakout role for newcomer Mia Wasikowska, who is playing Alice).

For all you Alice In Wonderland fans anxiously awaiting the movie, set for release in 2010, here’s an awesome song I found on YouTube that was composed almost entirely of sounds from the Disney animated version:

Well, to be a buzz kill, I'm not really understanding why he's combining Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. He's combined the Red Queen from Through the Looking Glass with the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, which really doesn't make any sense. But those are the only two characters from Looking Glass, so go figure, really not making sense to me. I'm not really a math person, but the novels are a series of logic statements, which I suspect he's not really going to put much of an emphasis on. I'm a little tired of people thinking Alice in Wonderland is some trippy, crazy adventure written by a druggy, it's math, it's reason, and it shows how reason taken to the extreme is absurd. What many adaptations do have in common is that they make themselves look absurd by using extremes.

Plus, the visual just looks gaudy. Sometimes a little bit of subtlety goes a long way.
  • I LOVE TIM BURTON.. i just HAVE to see this movie !!
  • Ninja Fanpire
Not to mention Johnny Depp is a great actor! And Anne Hathaway isn't too bad either. I just can always seem to be able to tell it's her. But Johnny Depp looks different in every movie he does. It's like he's a different person each time, which is amazing because that means he gets really into character.

Tim Burton always makes great movies! Honestly, has he ever actually made a bad movie? The only three I can think of right now are Nightmare Before Christmas (DUH), Sweeney Todd, and Edward Scissorhands. And also that movie 9 that is coming out (same day as Bran Hambric). Did he have anything to do with Coraline? I don't remember but it looks a bit like his style.

tim burton's films are some of my faves. this IS going to be epic.
  • I haven't read the actual book but I've seen the Disney adaptation and another live action one (can't remember which one considering that I was around 10 and it was around midnight when I watched it but I'm quite sure it was Alice in Wonderland)

Tim Burton version is soooo going to be epic! Can't wait to see it!!!
  • Chelsea
Ah, I had missed the Alice one, too. This movie looks so great. Perfect blend of Tim Burton + classic novel + ALL MY FAVORITE ACTORS HOLY CRAP. Michael Sheen's in it, too (Aro in NM). It's like... perfection.
  • Hannah
It's so funny how nearly everyone in this movie is also in Sweeney Todd. But that's SO great as well. I can't wait for this movie!! I'm not very happy with Anne Hathaway but whatever. The rest of the cast is freakin amazing.

I dunno, I like Tim Burton's movies, but I'm a bit skeptical. I mean, Burton is REALLY creative, but he uses the same faces over and over, and even though his films are well done, instead of seeing the characters you see the actors. In Sweeney Todd, for instance, it was hard to disassociate Todd from Depp, and while his twisted versions of older stories were unique at first, it's become a predictable format. I'll probably see the movie, and hopefully I'll enjoy it. I'm a fan of Burton's, but I'm ready for something unexpected.

I may be totally wrong, and I hope that it turns out well, but that's what I think.

Who doesn't love Tim Burton? He's one of the few ppl who has managed to not only hold onto his imagination, but REALLY embrace it. The man is a genius.
  • Fursplosion

I am a huge fan of Tim Burton's work, especially "Corpse Bride". I've got to say, the score for that movie is absolutely stunning. That plus tha fact that Johnny Depp's voice for Victor Van Dort is... perfect.
  • Bekah
I actually screamed when I first saw Johnney. HE IS CREEPY! But this movie looks awesome! Yay! But really it is probably going to be creepy like most of his, but still awesome like all of his movies.

Hey does anyone know if Tim Burton directed that Frankenweenie movie?
  • Patricia Rakel
I can't wait for this movie to come out! I heard about it a long time ago. And I love that song. I've had it on my iPod for a really long time, after I got into my Alice's Adventures in Wonderland phase. Love Johnny Depp, love Tim Burton, love Helena Bonham Carter, love Anne Hathaway.
  • Oh crap. I just really can't stand Helena Bonham Carter. I can't think of any roles that I enjoyed her. She's just one of those actresses for me.

I'm really not a big fan of Tim Burton's animated works, but I like most of the live action stuff. I really love Alice in Wonderland, and Anne Hathaway. She looks amazing. It's a pretty surreal story anyway, so I'm thinking that Burton is going to be a pretty nice fit.
  • The Mad Hatter is really giving me the heebie jeebies here.
    Yup.
    I've been jeebie'd. :O

this looks kinda creepy haha but i still want to see it
  • Corinne!
I'm excited for this movie, but I like the original cartoon version so much that I'm afraid the new one won't live up to my expectations. However, I probably shouldn't try to compare the two, should I? I am happy that the the new movie will have more of the original characters from the book than the cartoon did, though.

    Corinne!
  • Laura
Tim Burton remakes are from the books, not the movies. That's why there was that drastic difference in the Willy Wonka movies.
