New Features And Songs And Stuff

June 15th, 2009 at 8:06 pm by --KALEB NATION--

There are some new features to point on on my site, and a bunch of little updates that I’ve been meaning to post, but just didn’t seem to merit an entire blog to themselves! So without further ado:

- I added an entirely new Fans page, where I’ll be posting some of the awesome stuff that BranFans are making. Creative people are always sending in photos or pictures they drew, so I’ll be collecting and putting them on that page, along with all their cool fansites and videos and music,

- I now have an Official Facebook page, aptly located at www.Facebook.com/KalebNation. It is fan-run, but I will be dropping in at times to post updates,

- I have migrated the TwilightGuy.com Chatroom to jointly be a part of this site, so BranFans and TwilightGuy readers alike can hang out. I’ll be dropping in at random times and there are a ton of cool people there every day, so be sure to check it out,

- I uploaded a new song from the Bran Hambric soundtrack to YouTube, and you can also download it for free! Listen below:

bran-hambric-line-logoQuestion time! Since there are only 85 days until Bran Hambric: The Farfield Curse, I’ve been trying to think of cool stuff I should prepare as a countdown to the book release. I know that Stephenie Meyer always did some type of countdown where she would give quotes from the book a week or two leading up to the release. This would be a bit difficult for me to pull off since this is a first book, and nobody really knows who the characters are or what I’d be talking about. The only way anyone would understand it was if I forced them to read the preview chapters. FOR EXAMPLE:

Oh terrible nights of woe and destruction, as I break down and blow up all forms of construction!” he screamed in delight.

If you had never read the book or preview chapters, you might think that Bran had said this under the guise of the pronoun ‘he’, and suddenly feel to your horror that the book you undoubtedly pre-ordered (because ALL GOOD CITIZENS have preordered Bran Hambric*) is actually about a fat brat who likes being brazenly destructive**. ANOTHER EXAMPLE:

“Blast the library,” Sewey said. “We’re going where we can be as loud as we want and not get thrown out!”

“Yay, the zoo!” Balder oinked.

“No,” Sewey snorted. “A bookstore.”

In this case, while the characters are obviously not Bran, you might come to the conclusion that Sewey and Balder are Bran’s pet pigs who happen to talk***, which he keeps in his bedroom closet. Or, to your utter disgust, you might assume that Sewey and Balder are two friends of Bran’s, and that the line afterward would be

“Yes! Let’s burn all the books while we’re at it, comrades!” Bran Hambric sneered, whilst throwing rocks at old ladies and bending over to punch a small rabbit.****

which isn’t at all the case, at least with the book I wrote.

I don’t even know how I got onto that tangent, but as some people have mentioned, there are some of you who would still like a quotes-countdown. You can at least be sure that I’ve got a bunch of plans together to make it lots of fun before the release date!

QUESTION FOR THE COMMENTS: What are some cool things and ideas you would like to see happen as part of the Bran Hambric countdown?

——NOTES——

*Obvious attempt at brainwashing

** No offense to those of you who are like this: I happen to have a character for you in the book, whose name also begins with the letter ‘B’.

*** Unfortunately, there are no talking pigs in Bran Hambric.

**** This does not appear in Bran Hambric: The Farfield Curse. I am not barring it as a possibility from the sequel, however.

Yes, you MUST add talking pigs into your next book somehow!

  2. Krystina

hmm, well I think you should do blogtv's at least once a month on the ninth celebrating 3 months, 2 months, 1month, ect… until the book is released..

  3. Marisa

You know those funny photoshop-y pictures that you make for your TwilightGuy posts? Maybe you could make those, having them resemble some scenes from Bran Hambric: The Farfield Curse. I'm so excited for you, Kaleb :D

    ~Marisa

  4. Becca

Yes, I vote for Blog TV also, and maybe you can just answer questions that we ask about the book…???

  5. donnie

Give us the whole book. NOW.

  6. Rakey

Each week for the month leading up to the release, give us three events in the book. Only, one is fake. They can be as minor or major (or as obvious or inconspicuous) as you'd like (like, for New Moon: 1. Bella goes to the movies. 2. Bella marries a gnome. 3. Bella goes to Italy). Like a 2 truths and a lie type thing.

I was gonna add more ideas, but then I realised that was my only idea. Me = not creative.

i think every 2 weeks you should list a chapter title and one thing that happens in that chapter so it keeps use thinking on whats going to happen next

What about the music?!?!?!?! I know that we can get a few of the songs, but I want them ALL!!!!! (When your internet connection isn't so good, its hard to keep that little player up and running when you're in the mood for songs from Bran Hambric) Just a thought….

  9. Briana

Well, Ally Carter recently did one line snippets from her new book, leaving you to guess who said them, what situation they were in, etc. Very fun. That's the beauty of being able to take things out of context…and the fun of it. *michievous grin*

Give away a signed copy of your book every hour for the last 24 hours before the release!

  11. Alexandra

Do a character bio page describing chharacters physical and mental traits??????

  12. Katy :]

Yes blogtv, like every day :]
And also…. You should give away signed books!

    I second that! Brilliant idea!

You can do what some other people do and create a funny video every day counting down one week to the countdown. You can look up some people that have done that like Marianas Trench, they counted down the last 4 days til their second album. You can also post a background or an avater every day for the final couple of days. These ideas don't require sending out books to everyone and are a bit easier considering the other ideas include you giving out $100 worth of books or staying on blogTV for 24 hours(even though those ideas would still be awesome and I would gladly stay on to watch the show!)And congrats on the book! I read the preview chapters and they're REALLY good! Can't wait to read it!

You should blatantly set up a competition for example what amazing/strange place can people be while e.g holding a picture of your book, or you could release quotes/scenes and people could try and represent them. Each week (or however long) you could pick your favourites. This doesn't really promote the book much (fail!) but it sounds like fun (to me) ahem.

I like the idea of a funny pic like Marisa suggested. I also love Rakey's suggestion. I think that Blog TV's could get real old real quick when done too often.

  17. J

Just be working on the next book. I hate waiting.

  18. Min

Hmmmm…You could give out random interesting character tidbits (Ex: Bran does or does not enjoy punching small furry animals). You could create 'screenshots' from your story that don't necessarily make sense to us but leave us in suspense, or set up an amazing contest that lets us guess what Bran would do in a certain scenario – that would be fun! Oooo – or you could take clever, photographic clues and make us figure out what they mean – (example – a note scribbled on a napkin in a random coffee shop bearing a hint that we have to somehow decode?)*raises eyebrows* How mysterious….

I am so very happy that you've decided to do a fan page. I've been wanting to see the things that people have snet. With any luck, my child-like artwork will be featured. LOL
