Come See Me at Book Expo America

April 27th, 2009 at 10:58 pm by --KALEB NATION--

Kaleb Nation at BEA 2009WHERE: NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, USA

WHEN: FRIDAY, MAY 29, 2009

My publishers have announced that they will be bringing me to Book Expo America this year, which is the largest annual book trade event in the US. It will be my first appearance as a writer, and my debut into the professional literary world. My publishers will be showcasing Bran Hambric: The Farfield Curse in their booth (currently #3977) to countless booksellers, librarians, teachers and publishing insiders who will be attending. Excitement? MUCH.

For those of you who might be wary of approaching the Sourcebooks booth, I’m told there will be a collection of Advance Reader Copies of my book sitting out that are Completely Free Of Charge. Yes. Free books. For the taking. BEFORE 9/9/09.

I haven’t actually been told how many books will be available, so if you’re one of those people who happen to be in the book business, and absolutely, positively NEED a copy of Bran Hambric NOW or you’ll lament in sackcloth and ashes, then please come see us at your earliest possible convenience. I plan to wear a very large coat, which will end up with a bit more stuffing than when I came in, and multiple ARC’s having mysteriously disappeared from the Sourcebooks booth. Shhh. Don’t rat me out.

Since there will be ARC’s, which are basically paperback versions of my book, I will also have my very first book signing on Friday, May 29, at 11:00 AM! If you are at the event, or are interested in registering, I really hope you will stop by. Of course, I’ll have plenty of photos and YouTube videos from the event, too.

(For those who are wondering just how big this event is, check out this video). (ADDED: here’s a video:)

Hey Kaleb, I think the Sourcebooks booth is 3277--my BEA doc shows 3977 as Brilliance Audio's area. ? Anyway, really hope to meet you there. Good luck!

  • ZOMGRSH did you write down Toronto already?! LoL no, but really please come down for a signing and visit it would mean the world and more :) Preferably at Yorkdale Mall LoL

    D: Hopefully...?
  • Lana G.
I am so frustrated! I live in the area, and even registered for the expo.......but due to an annoyingly placed religious holiday, I can't be there Friday or Saturday! Which means I can't meet you or get a book signed! And I really wanted to get a hard copy, not just for myself, but for my twelve year old brother who seems allergic to books sometimes. I really think he'd enjoy yours... Will you at least be present at the expo on Sunday?

Awesome!! It's in NYC!! I live in West Mass.!!! Only problem is, to get there without having to leave at 6 in the morning and go STRAIGHT to the place, I would have to leave the day before, and I have an uberly important band concert that day, in which I am one of only 4 flutes in a 30. SOOOOO, I cant go. Too bad....... Come To Pittsfield, MA if you have a tour!!! Please!!
  • Anna_Loves_TWILIGHT
one of only 4 flutes in a 30 person band, i mean. whoops
  • When the book is released, will you be going on a book reading/signing tour across the country? If so, come to Bellingham, WA. Usually, when people from out of the state come to do an event, it is done in Seattle, but Bellingham is the hub of North North West WA. College city, diverse crowd, etc. I go to college in Bellingham, which is why I think you should come to Bellingham if you come to Washington State.

I am super bummed that I won't be able to come to New York and nab a copy of your book...

(Hint: do this kind of thing in Michigan! There are people here who would love to meet you and participate in other various fan-ish activities in your presence!)
  • Janelle
Awesome, Kaleb! I would totally be there, except that I live across the country in California and I don't happen to own a private jet or have the funds to fly myself to New York on a whim. Dang.

I'm sure it's going to be amazing. Good luck and have fun! Can't wait for your video. :D Hope to see you signing in northern California someday! Everyone always goes straight to LA and I miss everything. :(
  • Fabi

  • Felicia
I wish I could go but live on the other side of the country in California T_T. I want a copy of your book especially if it's signed by you :( Well have fun :]
  • Gloria
Uber major congrats, Kaleb! I wish I could go, but on that day I have finals. And even if I could go, I doubt my parents would let me go to NYC by myself. Anyway, I wish you good luck on your oh-so-bright future! :)
  • BranFan

I live right next door in NJ!!! Maybe I can ask my mom (who's a reading teacher) to go and get an ARC!!!!

    But CONGRATS to you!
  • LostFairy07
I wish I could come!!! I probably won't be able to though... :-( Maybe I can con some friends into a day trip to NYC and sneak that in, but it's much more likely I will have to work...

    *despair* lol

    Congrats though!!! It's so exciting!
  • Maggie
Sorry, don't have enough travel points for that. LOL!
  • Aw, pincushions! I wish it was in Los Angeles.

  • Krystina
Kaleb you should steal a couple ARC's, sign them and give the away on blogtv or something. Do it for your broke fans who can't make even though they really, really want to be there (me!).
  • MsKittyCullen
    Same here D:
  • and here!
  • Guest
    Congratulations!!
    Too bad I can´t come :(
  • Mich(elle) C.
Congratulations! That's about 2 hours away from my home! ... on a school day ... grr. :/. I guess I can try to be there. I can't garantee that early as 11:00, though. MAYBE I'd start going near about 12:15. Not sure. Last time I went to NYC was for those infamous auditions, in March. Wish I could be there.
  • That's awesome!!! Congrats!!
Since I live in NYC and would loove a *signed* ARC of the book, is the event only for people in the business or can random, crazy, hyperventilating fans come as well?
  • Nylota
I have the same question. The online registration leads me to think that only professionals can go (though I have some librarian friends that may be going)
  • oh.my.GOD!!!! That is so awesomeeeee!!!! Man if I hadn't been stuck in Dubai and school going on I soooooooooo would have come!!!! But I am super impressed and excited..........your'e a debut author and you are actually ASKED to go there!!!!! I soooo want to be there! Enjoy your stay in NYC!!!!!

    --Pragya
  • coming to australia anytime in the near future?
    that would be brilliant =)
  • Annie
i spent my airline miles on twicon already... :-(
  • Rodney Fleming
I wish I could be there..... I want an ARC so bad! Oh well.... enjoy your stay in NYC.
  • Congratulations! If I hadn't been stuck in Europe like I am, I would be sure to come and see you :)
Big things are happening for you now and very very fast! Exciting.
  • Wren
I would love to come if I could! Probably can't, though, which means I'll rely on you to do a contest for a couple of your ARC's, and I must win. That's a good idea. Through your site, or youtube, or twitter, do contests for Bran Hambric ARC's.

I so wish I could go to NY!
  • Gothhic Goddess
OH. MY. GOD. That is so freaking awesome Kaleb!!!!!!!! As a writer, I am very much jealous. As a fan, I am so super happy and impressed! I was just thinking like 3 days ago that it would be so great if your publisher's would take you there. (Seriously, I did.) And not every debut author, let alone author, can proudly proclaim that they were ASKED to come. I am doing a happy dance for you!!!! Yay!
  • NuttyNetty
that. is. awesome!!! :D awww i'm going to cry :) you deserve all of this and more kaleb =D please make a video :) i would like to see all the excitement and (somewhat) experience this moment with you! <333
  • I'm so happy for you, Kaleb! Congrats on all of your success; I can't wait to see what you do in the future! :D
  • WOW Congrats Kaleb. I live in Ohio, but I'll try to be there. =)
  • TheHolyThief
Congratulations, Kaleb! I wish I could be there. I'm very happy for you and hope for all the best at your first signing event. (:
