Cascada is back with another song that radio won’t play. If you’re heard the original from Rascal Flatts, this one probably won’t live up to your expectations. The song isn’t terrible, but again, like her past three, it doesn’t live up to what made her multi-platinum in the first place. All it sounds like is the same pounding beat with the same instruments we’ve heard in three of her songs already. And she had so much potential.I think that if she really wanted to (and for crying out loud, stopped singing other people’s songs) she could certainly put out another hit.
It’s Cascada with What Hurts The Most.
Added November 27 – I actually like it slightly if I listen to it enough. Maybe it’ll grow on me…but she can still do better.

They thought it best to clean the attic out before I’m moved. This is just the hall. You should see the living room. It’s a wonder the attic hasn’t fallen in on us yet.
Gasp. It moved!
I’m packing some things for the move, like the 200 or so CD’s in my prize closet. Some lucky listeners are getting 16 CD prize boxes the next few weeks…And on top of that, this cold air mixed with the dust from the attic is making me sneeze and sniffle. And I have the nerve to write about Mabel and her crazy medicine. I know I’m taking herbs from five different mixtures trying to at least make myself feel reasonably human. Tis why one day I shall migrate between the seasons like Scott Westerfeld, running from the miserable chilling blight of cold weather.

I will probably be out for a few days more, so if I don’t post, blame the dust monsters.

If you don’t recognize the name, I’ll give you some clues. Christine. Think Of Me. Phantom. Opera.
That’s Emmy Rossum, and now she’s released her own album (we all knew she would eventually). After turning down multiple deals for a classical album, following with her most famous role in the Phantom of the Opera movie as Christine Daae, Emmy signed with Geffen Records to do a pop album; though she is quick to note it’s not a ‘Britney pop…more like Madonna’. Sounds a lot like Enya meets Kelly Sweet to me. I could say she sounds exactly like Michelle Tumes though I doubt anyone knows who she is anymore. Click the button to hear the beginning:
What you get from mixing Emmy Rossum and a pop producer is an ethereal pop that is quite rare and an interesting sound that I can easily listen to while writing or relaxing in the evening. This song doesn’t have any drums which is bit of a bummer- even those very light, fake pop loops would do good for this. I miss the light beat so much I’m considering doing my own remix of this song. But it’s a good listen.
She gets her rating because it’s different in a world of radio where everything’s always the same, and I’ve been looking for something like this for a while. The song is by Emmy Rossum and it’s called Slow Me Down.

So I just posted about this song a week ago, but already there’s another version out from Cascada, the electronic pop artist who was able to record one song and be the biggest pop artist of last year. Which version is best? The original, I have discovered, was done by Wham, though I don’t have that one because it’s so old. However, I have clips of the four latest versions below: and which one is the best?

I realized this morning that I never posted anything about the Texas Book Festival weeks ago. I went there to meet with authors and mingle with other book-minded people. There were plenty about, an entire schedule of big names including Rick Riordan, the big kids author of the moment who is writing the Percy Jackson series.
There was secret service everywhere, because Jenna Bush and Lynn Cheney were coming. I almost ran into all these guys with suits, little diamond collar pins and curly headphone wires. They were serious. I went to the end where Jenna was going to come in, without knowing where I was, and they were all looking at me, a whole group of them and police. I realized she would be coming from that street because it was filled with black SUV’s. I spun about and started right off in the opposite direction.
I went there hoping to see Rick Riordan, Kimberly Willis Holt (I won an autographed book from her 2 weeks ago), Jenna Bush and meet with April Lurie, who I have met over email. I ended up seeing none of those, but I did get to see Rick Yancey, Sherman Alexie, Neal Shusterman and this oddball:
One of those things you only get to see in places where authors congregate.
