EG Dailey – Changing Faces

- October 10th, 2007 at 12:30 pm by --KALEB NATION-- -

BabeI thought I had heard it all. E.G.Dailey, famous for doing the voice of Babe the Pig and some character on Rugrats, is putting out an album- the first song to be called Changing Faces. It seems quite interesting that she decides to put out an album right now, but it just so happens that her ex-husband, Rick Salomon, just got married to Pamela Anderson and has been in the news for a few fistfights. It’s stranger, though, that her label might possibly think this will boost her career (hint: radio won’t play this).

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

I don’t like the track, and I’ll leave it at that. I keep seeing Babe the Pig when I hear it. And I haven’t heard something this 90′s since…well, the 90′s.

Leiahdorus – New York Told Me So

- October 8th, 2007 at 8:50 pm by --KALEB NATION-- -

Leiahdorus (lee-ah-dor’-iss): 1. An electronica band that no one has heard of but has some cool stuff. 2. A band whose name is impossible to spell.

The members of the band Leiahdorus have a knack for great electronica music, though unfortunately they only have one or two really good tracks. I think it they got a producer or someone who knows how to write some great songs for them, they could put something out as good as Shiny Toy Guns (and great rot, please change the name to something easier to spell). Definitely music to drive by, as they say on their site, which might forgive some of the songs not being tip-top quality: listen to a clip of the track with the play button below and see for yourself…sounds like driving through the blue city lights late at night in a jazzy Bentley…

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Anyhow, I have had this song for at least a year or two, and it’s still good to listen to late at night. It’s rare that you find good electronica these days, and this track is easily Leiahdorus’ best.

Ingrid Michaelson – The Way I Am

- October 6th, 2007 at 9:04 pm by --KALEB NATION-- -

Ingrid MichaelsonHere’s a clip of a song called The Way I Am by a new artist named Ingrid Michaelson. I don’t know if you’ve seen them, but this song is supposed to be on the Old Navy commercials, or at least were at some time. It’s new and it’s that sound everyone is moving into these days: that slow, AC (Adult Contemporary) music that you can wind down in the evenings with: or in my case, write. If you want to hear the song, click on the button right here:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

It is interesting to note that if you’ve ever been inside an Old Navy store, this song will immediately strike you as exactly the type of music they play. One time, I was at the store and I heard a whole list of great songs, but I couldn’t get the titles. So I searched online, and found out that the stores actually get new CD’s every month or so with new music specially picked for the stores to go with their image. I got someone to email me an entire spreadsheet of all the music playlists since 2003 that Old Navy’s had in their stores: page upon page of great AC.

My favorite book covers of 2007

- October 5th, 2007 at 12:41 pm by --KALEB NATION-- -

Alright, here are my favorite book covers of all time. These all seem to just leap out off the shelf, look great even when they’re a small thumbnail on Amazon, and actually draws me in to want to read the book (though I have truthfully not read many of these). Here they are:

Tantalize by Cynthia SmithWonderful colors! Everything is smooth and crisp, even the font. Extremely creative. And the author happens to live within 45 minutes of my house, in the Big City nearby.

House by Frank PerettiThis one looks like a movie poster! All the text works perfect and the house just comes straight out of the black. The colors on this one are great too. It surprised me how well this one was done, because Peretti isn’t famous for his covers: but after this one worked, I think his people caught on and he’s had some pretty explosive covers since.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini - Movie Mass Market book coverThe Eragon movie version of the book, in mass market format. This one has stunning colors, high-concept approach to the way it’s done. Of course, it looks like a movie poster because it IS a movie poster.

I’m still on the lookout for more.

Book Covers

- October 4th, 2007 at 5:30 pm by --KALEB NATION-- -

Everyone knows book covers- they all follow the same format most of the time: text on top, author name really small and sharp, the main points in the title big and pictures that sometimes have nothing to do with what they’re talking about. Well here’s a few book covers, some of them based on real one’s, that all follow the format:
