Christopher Paolini, author of the Inheritance series commonly known for Eragon and Eldest, has just announced that his former trilogy of books will now have 4 novels. He is famous for being 15 when he started on his books and 19 when he was a New York Times Bestselling author, and was quite an inspiration to me for the longest time, even before I read his first book. He’s sold 16 million copies of his first two novels alone. The titles of Eragon Book 3 and Eragon Book 4 (what people are calling them for now) haven’t been put out yet, though the next book has been set for release in September of 2008, and some speculate the third book in the Inheritance series will be titled Empire. Go here for the news…
Anyone out there a fan of Eragon and Christopher Paolini? And more so, has anyone seen Christopher at a book signing before, and how big was the crowd? I looked for videos on YouTube but there aren’t many of his appearances.
Added 1/17/2008: Christopher Paolini just announced the title of book 3 will be Brisingr.

This was emailed to me, and I still find it hard to believe how far she’s gone from this. I hope that doesn’t give away the answer, but I’m sure you can guess who it is just by that. See how long it takes you:

The interview with Canada’s group Carried Away went great! I actually interviewed them on the same day as Jump5 a few weeks ago, but I’m just now airing it. You can hear the full thing from here.

Being a writer, there are quite a few freakish oddities that happen to me on a regular basis- examples being that time I spent an hour or so writing out conversations with a character, none of which will ever appear in any book, or when I ‘nervously shifted from one foot to the other’ to try and get into another author’s head as to why he wrote that line when it doesn’t make sense and looks quite odd in practice (note: it will never appear in any of my writings due to experience of how ridiculous it appears). Another thing with me is that my mind sometimes gets fixed on one certain, unusual word all day long, and this week, that word happened to be marzipan.
Not a word one hears that often, and I haven’t a clue how this freakish word got into my brain. Tossing it around in my head all day means that I find many a place it could be used in a sentence. It could easily be the name of a character, of course:
Behold, the great Marzipan! I will give you three wishes in return for Pick of Destiny!
It could also be fouler:
What the marzipan is going on in here? Yangley, why are you holding my wallet?
Perhaps:
[whispering] But who understands those rappers girlfriends anyway? They only talk to her because she’s a total marzipan.
Or a bit further, maybe the brother of a velocipede:
Mums, I’m off to ride marzipans with Billy and I’ll be back before tea.
The name of a band?
They decided to name their band some random nonsense word like My Chemical Marzipan
Or one of those medicines they used to feed colonial kids:
You take your codliver oil and marzipan or else…
Or a musical instrument
Squash, you play the pizzacato, and Yackson, give me a solo on the pianoforte. And for Moby’s sake, Fred, get off THAT MARZIPAN!

Kyle Park is much the undiscovered Kenny Chesney of country music right now. He’s got a unique voice, a well-produced sound and a good review from me for his latest song Baby I’m Gone. Usually one to be certainly and surely against any song that has Baby in its title ( a reminiscent avoidance due to the Mandy Moore and Christian Aguilera days I lived through) this track still gains its merits by Kyle’s unique voice.
I hope he doesn’t take this in a wrong way, but if you were to turn Kenny Chesney into a fish, you’d probably get Kyle’s unique vocal style – probably one of his biggest and most unique selling features to radio, since you know who’s singing right off. Many a fish has belted out in tones quite similar, and I can almost see tiny bubbles rising from my stereo speakers. Click the button and hear for yourself.
Kyle and me have a strange and unusual connection, though the tangled web the story weaves is one I shan’t go into. Let’s just say there’s a reason Alone In The Light has been on my player in the right for a good six months…
If you like the clip, you can download the full song for free at his website right now.
