Jump5 Calls it Quits

- August 16th, 2007 at 3:00 am by --KALEB NATION-- -

It was recently announced that the teen pop group Jump5 is coming to a close, and all of the members are moving on to other things. They have one last album called Hello Goodbye (out on September 25th) which will feature some new stuff and their former, elusive member Lesley (or was it Lindsay?) one last time. The closing of the group comes as a surprise, I’m sure, to all the people who will always remember them as little kids and think they will always continue to be there like Peter Pan, who never grows up. Actually, Lesley is leaving the group and almost immediately going to her own wedding. How’s that for a shock? Wasn’t she just 14 or so…?

They actually grew up a long time ago, though Disney has been trying desperately to convince all of us otherwise. I never got to see them in person, though for years they were probably the biggest group for those preteen years. I actually grew up with them in a way, since they were all near my age. When you grow up so closely your mind seems to think that you really do know them, but at the same time, you think they’ll always stay where you first met them.

Funny how all the things which bind people together are quickly fading, to be slowly replaced by new ones which don’t seem to fill in the gap left behind. For years, everyone was a Star Wars fan, waiting in line to see the latest movie. Then for the longest, everyone was a Lord of the Rings fan, lining up every December to go see the latest episode, buying all the merchandise, memorizing all the trivia. Then that ended. Harry Potter took hold of the world. And now he’s gone as well; and with him, the lines of people dressed as wizards, the screaming children (and adults), the crowds lined up at midnight, and the elusive author whose very livelihood was based on teasing everyone with her literary twists and secrets. There was a strange sense, even if you were an outsider like me, that something was binding all these fans together like one enormous, worldwide family- all united for one purpose. And when the one thing which binds them together comes to a close, where do they go?

It is curious to look at all the people who are attempting these days to fill in the voids left by super-groups. I can still remember when everyone was into Britney Spears and Nsync, and now that they’re no longer the biggest thing, all of their fans have scattered, looking for something else to be into. There doesn’t seem to have been any really big music artists for a long while, since Avril Lavigne at least, that just about everyone was into at once.

I am curious as to what is coming next, as the world seems wide open all of a sudden for something new that the masses can seize hold of and really get involved in. Frodo’s fans have gone back into hiding. The music business is in recession. Star Wars has come to a close. And there’s still a new wave of kids coming up, the children of Harry Potter and Anakin Skywalker. So what’s next to fill their heads with the big dreams that led their parents through their own early years?

Carrie Underwood – New Album Info

- August 15th, 2007 at 3:00 am by --KALEB NATION-- -

Thanks to the popularity of her first album, Carrie Underwood is returning with yet another album, and if you liked her first one her latest already sounds so similar you’ll like this one just as well. I just put a clip of her new song up in the player to the right, see if you like it and comment accordingly (if the randomizer picked a different song, click on the song title to hear it).
Album is set to release on October 23rd and this first single is called So Small, which is like Jesus Take The Wheel and Wasted put into one, since hers truly, being smart, noticed that those two songs were her biggest hits.
If only her fellow Idol-Winner Kelly Clarkson had heeded the same advice… Give the People what the Want To Hear. I could go on and on about how much a waste My December is, save for maybe two good tracks. In comparison to her previous hits, this is definitely a ruinous move, especially since she could have very easily made it another smash hit album. No, she just couldn’t listen to her producer, and had to go on and write the whole thing herself, despite rumors of them offering $1 million just for her to accept 5 already-written hits which would have just made her more famous. Never Again and Sober are the best tracks on there, sadly neither making it as a hit. You can be sure the next time around she’ll be thinking a bit straighter when it comes to choosing between penning her own songs or letting the pro’s handle it.

Backstreet Boys - Inconsolable Album Cover artworkFor all you hundreds of people who are hitting this site for info on the new Backstreet Boys album, here’s the info.

- The first single is called Inconsolable.
- The album is set to street date on October 30th
- Inconsolable impacts AC and Top 40 radio on August 27th

I’ll post more on this as it comes, since it seems to be the popular subject on this site. Google and Yahoo searches are sending droves to this site, much to my amusement, like I’m the only site even mentioning their return. I am curious to know how many of you are real Backstreet Boys fans, or if you are simply curious since you hear the news, or if you are just discovering the group for the first time.

Bloopers

- August 10th, 2007 at 2:15 am by --KALEB NATION-- -

So I’m in here recording this week’s show and of all people, I couldn’t seem to get a solid string of words out without stuttering, lisping or having a squeak in the back of my throat. I have the copy right there and I’m doing it all fine until I slip up on one word. Usually this would be fine, except for the fact I do it about 5 times this one show, making it take way longer in the editing and rerecording it over. You can tell my apparent frustration in this clip: click here to listen

The best part is when I say ‘Regrets’ as ‘We-gwets’ like Elmer Fudd. I have done this I know 8 times since that song’s been on the show.

Backstreet Boys are Back

- August 9th, 2007 at 2:19 pm by --KALEB NATION-- -

Check out a clip of the new Backstreet Boys song over there in the player to your right- if the randomizer has it on a different song, just click the title (it’s at the top of the list). These guys haven’t put out something good in a long time so it’s a welcome relief that they got this song. Album is set to release on October 30th.

Funny thing about this is that they were one of the biggest groups years ago and have disappeared, but like almost everyone else these days (Mariah Carey, Nelly Furtado) they want to come back with a new song, and instead of the Justin Timberlake route (break away from your band and go solo, formerly of Nsync) these guys are doing what they do best, and that is harmony, luckily graduating from their boy-band pop for this new one. Now all that has to happen is radio stations to play it, which is a considerable chore that must be done if they want to sell records.
